Frequently Asked Questions

When Is The Best Time To Schedule My 3D Ultrasound?

Between 18 and 32 weeks is the ideal time to see your baby. Before 24 weeks you can see more of your baby at one time. Between 25 and 32 weeks, facial features become easier to define due to developing fat layers. Women with twins should visit around 27 weeks, as twins have less space. If you plan on having only one 4D ultrasound, the best time to come is between 27-32 weeks. If you plan on visiting twice during the same pregnancy, we suggest coming for the 1st session at 21 - 24 weeks and the 2nd session at 27 - 32 weeks.

What Factors Determine Image Quality?

The most important factor is the position of the baby. Other critical factors are the amount of amniotic fluid (the more the better) and the amount of tissue between the probe and the baby. If the baby is persistently looking face down (towards your back), it may be difficult to see the baby's face. Every baby is different, and it is fun to see how your session will show your baby’s blooming personality.

Will You Be Able To Determine The Gender Of My Baby?

Yes. Our sonographers can determine if you are having a boy or a girl. We begin doing gender determination at 16 weeks. On occasion, however, accuracy can be difficult due to baby’s position.

Should I Make An Appointment?

Yes. Sessions are scheduled by appointment only.

What Should I Wear For My Ultrasound?

Wearing a comfortable two piece outfit is easiest for mom-to-be.

Do I Need A Full Bladder?

No, You will NOT need a full bladder for your session. However, we do recommend that you drink plenty of water a few days prior to your visit up until your visit. This can aid in obtaining better images of your little one. Proper hydration is also important for you and the baby.

Can I Bring Family And Friends?

Absolutely! This is an exciting time and we want your family and friends to be able to share in the excitement of seeing your new baby. We have a beautiful
room for your family and friends to sit comfortably.

How Much Time Should I Plan For My Visit?

Please plan to be at our office for 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow time to process pictures/CD/DVD after scanning session (depending on package).

What Kind Of Ultrasound Machine Do You Use?

We use the GE Voluson i, a top-of-the-line ultrasound machine for obtaining 3D and 4D images. 3 dimensional (3D) ultrasound creates amazing images that allow you to see your baby in detail. Add time to this, and you now have 4D which lets you watch your baby move in 3D. You might catch them sucking a thumb or yawning. Or maybe they’ll give you a little wave.

Is This Type Of Ultrasound Safe?

The GE Voluson i is a similar machine, and as safe as those used at your doctor's office. Ultrasound technology has been the subject of hundreds of clinical studies over the past 30 years and has not been shown to cause any harm to the mother or baby. We urge you to speak with your doctor about the safety of ultrasound. Even though there are no known risks of ultrasound imaging, it can produce effects on the body. According to the FDA, “when ultrasound enters
the body, it heats the tissues slightly” and “the long-term effects of tissue heating are not known” (FDA site below). Here at Assurance Imaging, we feel your health and the health of your unborn baby are of up most importance. This is why our ultrasounds are performed on machines that meet FDA guidelines and are no longer than 30 minutes long.
